    Prof. Petra Arck is Dean of Research, University Medical Center Hamburg (UKE) and Professor of Experimental Feto-Maternal Medicine at the UKE. She is Editor of Seminars in Immunopathology (Springer Nature) and Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Reproductive Immunology (Elsevier). She is the Speaker of the Clinical Research Unit 296 ‘Feto-Maternale Immune Cross Talk’ since 2015. She was President of the European Society for Reproductive Immunology in 2007-2010.

    Her research focuses on the interaction between reproductive endocrine, the immune system and the nervous system and translational medicine. She has published more than 100 research articles and scientific reviews in the fields of reproductive medicine and immunology, mostly in high-impact journals such as Nature Medicine, Journal of Clinical Investigation, and Human Reproduction.

    Dr. Mor was the division director of the Reproductive Science Division at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale. He directed the Reproductive Immunology Unit and the Translational Research Program “Discovery to Cure.”

    His research has been funded by grants from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases, as well as several pharmaceutical companies. The editor in chief of the American Journal of Reproductive Immunology since late 2009, he is the president of the American Society for Reproductive Immunology. He is widely published in the area of immunology and reproduction, with more than 280 publications, and is the editor of three books, on immunology of pregnancy, apoptosis and cancer.

    He is the recipient of several national and international prizes, including the Pearl River Professor Award from Jinan University (Guangzhou, China), and the American Journal of Reproductive Immunology Award and the J. Christian Herr Award from the American Society for Reproductive Immunology.

    Dr. Surendra Sharma is Professor of Pediatrics, Women and Infants Hospital and The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University

    He recently completed his tenure as President of the American Society for Reproductive Immunology (2010-2012) and continues to be on the Society’s Executive Committee. He served as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Immunology and currently serves as a member of the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Reproductive Immunology.

    He has expertise in reproductive biology and reproductive immunology with long term research interests in placental biology, reproductive immunology, and pathogenesis of adverse pregnancy outcomes. His long-standing experience in research has addressed uterine immunity, cytokine imbalance, hormonal regulation, and angiogenic dysregulation in pregnancy complications. His recent work has provided novel insights into the etiology of preeclampsia.

    Dr. Joanne Kwak-Kim is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Microbiology and Immunology of Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, as well as the Assistant Chair, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Chicago Medical School of Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. Currently, she serves as Director of Rosalind Franklin University Health System’s Reproductive Medicine Center. She has been a dedicated member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine since 1994. Her keen interest lies in Reproductive Immunology; particularly, recurrent pregnancy loss, which has been the focus of her research. Her work in natural killer cell and Th1/Th2 immune responses in women with recurrent pregnancy losses and multiple implantation failure is well known. The research work that she has done, which applies basic science techniques to clinical problems is cutting edge. She has over 70 publications in peer reviewed articles and text books. She has mentored and continues to mentor medical students, residents, and fellows. Dr. Kwak-Kim has lectured numerous times both nationally and internationally. She is an associate editor, American Journal of Reproductive Immunology and an editorial board member of many journals.

    Prof. Yehuda Shoenfeld is the founder and head of the Zabludowicz Center for Autoimmune Diseases, at the Sheba Medical Center which is affiliated to the Sackler Faculty of Medicine in Tel-Aviv University, in Israel. Dr. Shoenfeld is the Incumbent of the Laura Schwarz-Kipp Chair for Research of Autoimmune Diseases at the Tel-Aviv University.

    His clinical and scientific works focus on autoimmune and rheumatic diseases, and he has published more than 1920 papers in journals such as New Eng J Med, Nature, Lancet, Proc Nat Acad Scie, J Clin Invest, J Immunol, Blood, FASEB, J Exp Med, Circulation, Cancer and others. His articles have had over 55,000 citations. He has written more than three hundred and fifty chapters in books, and has authored and edited 40 books, some of which became cornerstones in science and clinical practice, such as "The Mosaic of Autoimmunity", "Infections and Autoimmunity" and the textbook "Autoantibodies" and "Diagnostic criteria of autoimmune diseases", all of which were published by Elsevier and sold by the thousands.

    He is on the editorial board of 43 journals in the field of rheumatology and autoimmunity and is the founder and the editor of the IMAJ (Israel Medical Association Journal) the representative journal of science and medicine in the English language in Israel, and also is the founder and Editor of the "Autoimmunity Reviews" (Elsevier) (Impact factor 7.095) and Co-Editor of "Journal of Autoimmunity" (Impact factor 7.018). He has organized over 20 international congresses on autoimmunity.

    Prof. Shoenfeld received the EULAR prize in 2005, in Vienna, Austria: "The infectious etiology of anti-phospholipid syndrome". In UC Davis, USA, Dr. Shoenfeld received the Nelson's Prize for Humanity and Science for 2008. In 2009 he was honored as Doctoris Honoris Causa, from Debrecen University (Hungary),. He has recently been awarded as the ACR Master Award in 2013.

    Prof. Shoenfeld has described two new syndromes: the ASIA syndrome (Autoimmune Syndromes Induced by Adjuvants) and the Hyperferritinemic Syndrome.

    Prof. Shoenfeld was head of department of internal medicine for 27 years and has educated a long list of students (>40 ) being heads of departments and institutes.

  • Prof. Udo R. Markert, M.D.

    Dr. Udo R. Markert is the President-Elect of the American Society of Reproductive Immunology, which honored him with the John Christian Herr Award 2009. He is also council member of the International Societey for Immunology of Reproduction and the European Society of Reproductive Immunology. He is the Head of the Placenta-Laboratories, the research unit of the Department of Obstetrics at the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, Germany. The scientific focus of Dr. Markert’s group is intracellular signal transduction in cells at the materno-fetal interface, mainly trophoblast and NK cells, as well as proteomic analyses of fertility and pregnancy related body fluids. A major aim of his activities is motivating students to work in the field of reproductive immunology and pushing their international mobility. Thus far, Dr. Markert has supervised 40 master and doctorate theses. His lab was member of EMBIC, an European Network of Excellence on Embryo Implantation Control (www.embic.org) and is involved in numerous further international cooperation. Dr Markert is Associate Editor (since 2010), and was Editorial Board member (2003-2009) and Guest Editor (2003) of the American Journal of Reproductive Immunology. He has edited three books: “Local Immunotherapies in Allergy” (2003), “Immunology of Gametes and Embryo Implantation” (2005) and “Immunology of Pregnancy” (2005).
